Our trip to Atlanta was fun, but long. Leaving NOLA at 12:30 in the afternoon is not conducive to getting early. We dropped Jess at her condo/apartment at 11 something PM...
We drove off with the Vanagon sputtering and trying to stall, and landed at a Microtel motel a few miles away. Crashed (Karla), I watched Game of Thrones to get my mind off why the Westfalia was acting up. We slept in......repacked and started the van, voila'...it started and ran fine.....whew........ate breaakfast at a Cracker Barrell, and headed for Dave & Sandy Molin's (in Sylva NC.outside Asheville NC)......Once again the GPS led us astray....stuck in constuction traffic, on I-85, we called Dave to say we would be late ......Dave chided me for going the wrong route...then directed me to Route 441, one exit up. YeeeeHa!!
Open highway, though the Smokey Mountains....beautiful drive..we were at Daves' in less than two hours.
The road to Molin's is steep and winding, the house nestled in the hillside.
Sandy was tending her garden.......
Dave offered me a beer.........
and we toured the grounds.....
Dave is a blueberry farmer.......
Scout watching the homestead........
Dave grilled his signature London broil...........
after dinner, we enjoyed the cool evening on the deck..................
Listened to music, told stories.......caught up.......then off to bed................
I think the stress over the car's performance is necessary, to balance out how FANTASTIC the rest of the trip is! Would love to see you when you hit CT...
ReplyDeleteYou are right! We are going to be in Greenwich, Fri late afternoon and early on Sat. Sat. we are going to Willimantic, and then home. So sorry we did not call Nick. It was RUSH RUSH RUSH and then we were on our way to Atlanta. Mea Culpa..
DeleteHi George! Just remembered to ask Janelle for the blog address, have also given it to Jim Coulson. WOW! What an amazing trip!!! This was the best lunch companion for me today! I feel like I have been on a wonderful vacation. Continued amazing and safe journey. Enjoy! Lizzy
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones is the perfect antidote to any bad day. Nothing equals what goes on in Westeros, Easteros or Whateveros......
ReplyDeleteChuckle, chuckle...
