Working on the Westfalia.....

Tom got home at 11PM last night, we were out cold...dead asleep in the front yard.......
Tom's house is on Emerald Forest drive...it is a noisy, busy street. there our two schools just down the road. lots of traffic and people passing by...we were a curiosity.
In the morning Tom whisked us away to his favorite breakfast burrito street vendor,El Primo,  next door to a coffee shop. We ordered the food, went into the shop, got drinks....the food was ready....devoured in the coffee shops outdoor setting.

Off to Sprouts Market for fresh fruits (Karla made the boys tarts), Cheeses, chips, cookies....
and couple of HAMS (me & T)

Tom dropped Karla at the house ( for baking), and the two of us headed for the junkyard in search of replacement rear seat belts Vanagon.
Tom says WRENCH APART has everything.
Wrench part is a junkyard. You pay $2.00 to enter. Tell the attendant what kind of junk you need (make & model), he will direct you to a row to vehicle (Row #91). The most amazing thing, they had a 1987 Vanagon wreck. Our Vanagon is a 1987, built in Germany in '86, and missing lots of little pieces, handles, trim etc......
so..........................

100's of rows of junks. Took us 5 minutes to find row 91.

The van was trashed by previous scavengers, but I was able to extract the rear seat belts. Tom and I removed the privacy curtains,  rare to find fuses, the locking glove box with key, various knobs, rear tail light  assembly, window screens, the cigarette lighter. The crazy thing is, I forgot a screw driver. Tom found an old spoon. So between my wrenches and his spoon we scored.

Tom with his load.
In all I paid $39 for parts I would never be able to buy anywhere.

We came back, Tom showered and went to work.. Karla did laundry.......

and I played with the Westy.......

Replaced the seat belts. Added knobs...etc.....

Built the new rain fly ....

Then sat back and drank beer with Matt, Alex and Brian till Tom came home......
Good Dad....Good night
