Sunday, May 4th Mesa Verde

We went to Four Corners, the only place in the US where 4 states intersect.

Since we were so close, we went to Mesa Verde, the Pueblo Cliff dwellings. It was amazing to see the first condos in North America.

This is how they lived before Walmart...subsistence.....grains, grasses, nuts, twigs, bark...small dogs?

we  climbed down into the living space, where they cooked, ate and slept.

The Mesa is up (8000+ feet)
We drove on switch-backs for 20 miles to get there, the views were spectacular......

Then we went off to Albuquerque, NM
300+ miles........
We got here late 8:30pm, and thanks to Francesca, we were able to stay at a Days Inn next to a Jiffy-Lube.
The Westfalia needs it's 1,000 mile new engine oil change.

Today, I got up early went to Jiffy-lube.....but ended up as the third customer. It was fun to watch the young mechanic looking for the hood latch, (engine in the back), then explain that it's a Subaru engine in a VW.
He used the oil and oil filter Cesar gave me at California Westys.

So now, we are off to explore Albuquerque and Sante Fe.......

then off to Lubbock, Texas (half way to Tom in Austin,Tx)

  1. Once again wonderful photos. So familiar to us and makes us want to go back again. I had fry bread at the 4 Corners, Pete " a real taco." Congrats on climbing to the Pueblo Cliff dwellings. Sounds like the VW managed to climb the 8,0000 Sante Fe has a beautiful little church in the old part of the city. Be nice to pop in for a minute or so, Enjoy! Cousin Linda
